So much has happened in the past few months, that I find it overwhelming to fill you in on all that has happened. I remember a precious friend asking me once, "How do you eat an elephant?" The answer? "One bite at a time" So, I will give you tidbits (Lord willing each week) to keep you up to date on the ministries' progress and to share all the miracles we are seeing.
I will start by adding an excerpt to a letter I wrote as an explanation of A Brighter Day Ministries.
"Having been led by the Lord to serve in the community, Laurie Krumm started ministering to the needy in the community. As time went on, there became an abundance of people in need and many others who wanted to be a part of her ministry, so in March of 2022, Mrs. Krumm founded A Brighter Day Ministries.
Although this ministry did not officially become a licensed non-profit corporation until
March of 2022, 2021 saw a mighty moving of God's power!
2 men got off the streets
1. This first man was on the streets of Yuma for over 13 years. In January of 2021 he was assaulted, ambulanced to the ER and then released to go right back to where the assault occurred. We helped this man acquire a home and get on Social Security (he was 71 years old), get birth certificate and state ID. We also took him to Dr.’s appointments and since January of 2021 he has had surgery for a life-threatening condition, acquired hearing aids and glasses and now has the mental and physical health care that he needed. With the help of the ministry and volunteers, he is adjusting back into society in a safe and nurturing environment.
2. The ministry helped the second man gain access to the money in his bank account so that he could find a place to live. He did not understand why the bank would not give him his money and was very confused about the situation. He had been living on the streets for almost a year. After hearing his story, I realized that he had lost his ID. The next morning, we took him to AZMVD, paid for him to get another driver’s license, took him to the bank and he now has access to his account and the money to acquire housing. The very first thing he did was give the money for his ID back to the ministry. Many are not looking for a hand-out, but just a hand up.
In the past year the ministry has also:
Made 60 visitations to shut-ins
Prayed for and shared the Gospel with dozens
Provided transportation to Dr.’s offices and other organizations, pharmacies and grocery stores 70 times.
Distributed over 100 meals to the needy
Distributed 120 “Hope Bags” to the homeless. (These bags contain a note of encouragement, snacks, oatmeal, water, electrolyte drink mix, toothbrush, toothpaste and other hygiene products)
Volunteers provided 24/7 caregiver services for a person after their surgery. These volunteers included a nurse practitioner and a certified caregiver along with several others.
A Brighter Day Ministries is run solely by volunteers. Although most of our clientele is homeless, in need of food or replacement ID/birth certificate, we also offer free counseling and other services to all in our community regardless of financial status.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all those who have volunteered their prayers, time, supplies and finances to help us continue to be the Hands and Feet of Christ in the Yuma community.
God bless you all, Laurie
